Could you benefit from expert advice on a new digital offering for your media company? Are you interested in creating an investigative news desk or reorganizing your newsroom? Do you want to build a solid long-term business plan?

If your answer is ‘yes’ to one of the above questions, or if your media company has another project, you should consider applying to MPP MENA 2014, a tailored programme for media throughout the Middle East and North Africa region, offering an array of activities to help you get to the next level. Through a combination of individual coaching, specialized workshops, mentoring by experienced colleagues and attending international media events to learn about the latest development in the industry and, we help you realise your project. 

The programme is open to print and digital media.

Women media professionals in particular are encouraged to apply, as WAN-IFRA will seek to achieve gender parity in the programme.

This programme is open to all countries within the MENA region, however priority will be given to media in emerging markets.  

Please note that this program will be delivered in English, therefore a strong written and verbal command of the English language is a requirement.

MPP MENA 2014 includes the following:

  • One-on-one Coaching by a recognised media or business expert, allowing participants to identify the strengths and weaknesses of their project, and how to bring it to the next level.
  • Workshops on Leadership and Media Management Skills,allowing participants to benefit from a curriculum specifically designed for the programme by recognised international and regional media experts.
  • Mentoring, whereparticipants are matched with colleagues from other media for peer mentoring, allowing them to learn from each other.
  • Sponsored participation in an international WAN-IFRA event,allowing participantsto learn about the latest developments in the media industry and develop their business networks regionally and internationally.


Who can apply?

Media that have a business and/or editorial project they wish to develop and implement under the guidance of a media expert. The project can be either at the idea stage, or one that is already being implemented, but is needing expert advice and input.

Note that the implementation period for the first concrete results should be no more than 6 months (for example project to increase revenue for digital news portal, the revenue plan should see the first incomes within an six-month period).

Please note that up to two people per media outlet may be enrolled in MPP. Participants must be directly involved in the media project with decision-making authority relating to the project in question.

Among other components, the application must include a detailed description of the project including how success would be defined (critical success indicators), as well as how its successful implementation supports both the newspaper as well as the advancement of the independent press in the Middle East and North Africa.

In total, up to 10 newspapers (20 participants) will be admitted to the Media Professionals Programme: Middle East and North Africa.
